What Was Never Lost
Finding the Self We Left Behind
There comes a time when no one remains yours, especially when you no longer remain your own.
Those feelings. those strange feelings where it seems as though we never truly met anyone not a place, not a person, not a moment, not an illusion, not even reality itself. As if we never walked beside anyone at all.
Then suddenly, one day, in a single moment, something stirs within us. A memory, a sensation, an emptiness. It feels as though something has been lost, someone has left, something precious has slipped away. Yet that thing never really existed not in a physical form, not in a tangible form, not even in an emotional form
So what was it that we lost?
It wasn't people. It wasn't relationships. It wasn't promises, expectations, or responsibilities.
And yet, one day, everything inside begins to feel dark and hollow.
Because what was lost was never outside of us.
What drifted away was perhaps our own self. We had ignored ourselves for so long, distanced ourselves from who we truly were. In the noise of the world and its endless patterns, we failed to recognize it.
But those feelings that unspoken, unheard, and often unwanted presence—kept signaling to the heart. They kept reminding us that we have a journey of our own. A journey that passes through sorrow, pain, and difficult circumstances, places where it often feels as though we have lost life itself.
Yet perhaps those moments are not merely about loss. Perhaps they are reminders that somewhere along the way, we lost sight of ourselves and that the journey ahead is about finding our way back.

Amit, this was very profound. Your work always is. Interestingly, this is very similar, in part, to a poem I began today. About finding our way back. You said it beautifully.
So resonates and very well expressed. This be the story of my life. Funny how life is. The incidents/situations may be different, but the journey of the soul feels the same. Thank you for sharing this!
